Happy New Year 2016

2015 was a challenging year for the hydrocarbon industry and for everyone connected to it. However, we are grateful to have done good business throughout this year, modifying and improving our services and sharpen our profile. We are looking forward to the interesting challenges and projects waiting to be done in 2016 to meet your needs and support your future exploration activities.

GeoResources co-organizing session on ‘source rock development during basin evolution’ at the 31st IAS Meeting of Sedimentology, June 22-25, Krakow

GeoResources will attend the 31st IAS Meeting of Sedimentology, June 22-25 in Krakow, co-organizing the Special Session 26 ‘Controlling factors on source rock quality and hydrocarbon generation during basin development – case studies from Europe’ together . This session aims to focus on the life-cycles of source rocks and hydrocarbon systems and their interaction with the life-cycle of sedimentary basins, pointing out new targets for future hydrocarbon exploration strategies. For further information on this session go to:
https://www.sedimentologists.org/docs/ims2015/special_sessions.pdf

GeoResources principal geologist Hartmut Jäger presents a talk on “Source rock development infront of active continental margins – the Lower Carboniferous of the southern North German Basin, Germany” presenting new data on the development and hydrocarbon potential of Carboniferous ‘black shales’ in NW-Germany deposited infront of the prograding Variscan orogen. It is presented in Special Session 26 “Controlling factors on source rock quality and hydrocarbon generation during basin development – case studies from Europe”. Date and time is not fixed yet.

Additional a poster presentation is given on “Depositional systems in the Early Palaeozoic of NE-Poland – implications on hydrocarbon source rock development” by Katarzyna Sobczak, Hartmut Jäger & Joachim Szulc (Jagellonian University Krakow). The poster will be on display during the Special Session 26 “Controlling factors on source rock quality and hydrocarbon generation during basin development – case studies from Europe”. Date and time is not fixed yet.

EU ERASMUS+ Trainee at GeoResources STC

Cristiana Estesves, graduated in geology at the University of Lisbon, is doing an EU ERASMUS+ Traineeship at GeoResources STC from January 5th to June 26th, 2015.

Her traineeship is focused on palynology and palynofacies analysis supervised by GeoResources principal geologist Hartmut Jäger. Beside the training in different laboratory processing and preparation methods and different microscopical methods, Cristiana performs a small research project on palymofacies variations in limestone-marlstone alternations. The study includes samples from the Lower Zechstein of southern Poland and the lower Cretaceous of the Algarve, Portugal.

GeoResources at PETEX 2014 Conference, November 18-20, London

GeoResources will attend the PETEX 2014 Conference and Exhibition,November 18-20 in London, presenting a poster on “Unconventional Hydrocarbon Potential of Carboniferous Shale Units in the North German Basin – New Insights from Optical Kerogen Analysis”. The presentation is given at the Petroleum Geoscience Research Collaboration Showcase, an independent international conference under the auspices of PETEX 2014, organized by The Petroleum Group, PESGB and AAPG.

GeoResources principal geologist Hartmut Jäger presents new data on basin maturation and source rock quality of the southern North German Basin based on Optical Kerogen Analysis. The new data show some major differences to previous work and question the high mature nature of this part of the basin. This will have a major impact on the hydrocarbon source rock potential of the area.
