Rainer Zühlke appointed member of the Organising Committee, MAPG-AAPG 2nd Int. Convention, Marrakech

GeoResources´ Director Dr. Rainer Zühlke has been appointed as member of the Organising Committee of the MAPG-AAPG 2nd International Convention, Conference and Exhibition in Marrakech, October 5-7, 2011.

Hartmut Jäger appointed secretary of CIMP Spore-Pollen Subcommission

GeoResources’ senior staff Dr. Hartmut Jäger has been appointed secretary of the CIMP Spore-Pollen Subcommission in September 2009 at the general meeting of the International Commission of  Palaeozoic Palynology (CIMP) in Warsaw. The appointment will last for the next term of four years.

The Commission Internationale de Microflore du Paléozoique (C.I.M.P.) is an
international federation of palynologists interested in Palaeozoic palynology.
The commission aims to advance knowledge in palynology and related subjects by
the promotion of international co-operation and meetings between scientists of
all regions and countries. Therefore the C.I.M.P. arranges symposia and
working groups, dealing with various stratigraphical and taxonomic problems in
Palaeozoic palynology.

Maria Boni appointed member of the Board of Trustees of the BGR, Hannover

GeoResources´ senior staff Prof. Dr. Maria Boni has been appointed Member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR, Hannover) by the German Federal Secretary of Economic Affairs, Rainer Brüderle.

The BGR is the largest geoscientific institution in Germany. The Board of Trustees counsels the directorate of the BGR and the German Federal Secretary of Economic Affairs with respect to the operations and the future development of the BGR. Counseling covers all scientific, technical and economic operations of the BGR including internal organisation and human resources management.

Special focus is on:
1) the BGR´s national and international mission of securing Germany´s supply of georesources and of environmental protection;
2) medium- and long-term strategies of the BGR, including financial planning;
3) major changes in the internal organisation, including human resources management, by the directorate of the BGR.

The appointment has been made for the forthcoming term of the Board of Trustees, starting on June 1 2010, and lasts for five years.

Thilo Bechstädt appointed Professor for Petroleum Geology, Uiversity of Krakow

GeoResources´director Prof. Dr. Bechstädt has been appointed Professor for Petroleum Geology at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. At the same time, he has retired from the Chair of Sedimentary Geology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where he is currently Professor emeritus.

Prof. Dr. Bechstädt will retain his responsibilities as director of GeoResources sharing his time between Heidelberg and Krakow.

The GeoResources team and offices remain in Heidelberg.

Dr. Hartmut Jäger will present the GeoResources project “HC Potential of Neoproterozoic Glacial Deposits in Namibia – Preglacial vs. Postglacial Source Rocks“. The presentation will be focussed on source rock characterization of pre- and postglacial formations of the Otavi Group in the Otavi Mountains, northeastern Namibia.
