Introductory to intermediate course in carbonate sequence stratigraphy for geologists, geophysicsts and engineers with basic sedimentological knowledge. Specific features and processes of carbonate deposition are briefly introduced/repeated at the beginning of the course. No prior experience in sequence stratigraphy is required. Basic knowledge in well log and seismic interpretation is useful. The course includes full 2 days of exercises in sequence stratigraphic interpretation. The course language is English. Optional field trip This course can be extended with a 4-5 day field trip to the Dolomites of the Southern Alps (Italy), where carbonate ramps & platforms are exposed at seismic scale. The field trip focuses on sequence stratigraphic interpretation in the field and reservoir-outcrop analogues. The Dolomites represent on of the key regions for carbonate sequence stratigraphy worldwide. Major case studies on sequence and cyclostratigraphy were located in the area. Because of excellent outcrop conditions, indicative depositional geometries, stratal terminations and unconformities, Tethyan accommodation and globals sea-level data for the Triassic have been derived from carbonate ramps and platforms of the Southern Alps. Fees Depending on course location and number of participants. Please contact courses@georesources.de for a specific offer. Location Inhouse-course, GeoResources, Heidelberg or at specific location requested by client. Computer facilities are required for excercises. Attendees Minimum 5, maximum 20. Dates Timing of inhouse course will be fixed according to client´s need. Time window for optional field trip is mid-June to mid-September (weather conditions in the southern Alps).
